Llanbister and Local area;

Tuff Terrains, test your off road driving skills on a course designed and run by experts. Tuff terrain offer courses of immense diversity and subtle complexity which will test you fully.

The Griffin Lloyd Shooting experience. Simulated high pheasant, bolting rabbit and springing teal shot in a timbered valley, and high testing targets are guaranteed in number and quality in this friendly, relaxed and safe environment.

Phil Price Rally School Full action packed “Hands on” day, real Rally stages in the Welsh hills, Professional Rally instructors each day, fully prepared rally cars. - We would advise on advance booking.

Fishing - Fly fishing and Course fishing in the River Ithon, and at two nearby private pools can be arranged during your visit.

Walking - It is believed that Radnorshire has one of the highest number of Public footpaths and Bridleways in the UK.  Here are just a few of the main walks;

Glyndwr's Way was granted National Trail status in millennium year 2000. Its enigmatic name derives from the early fifteenth century folk hero Owain Glyndwr, who won significant battles close to the route and who held a Welsh Parliament in Machynlleth

Offa’s Dyke Path was opened in the summer of 1971, linking Sedbury Cliffs near Chepstow on the banks of the Severn estuary with the coastal town of Prestatyn on the shores of thesea. It is named after, and often follows, the spectacular Dyke which King Offa ordered to be constructed in the 8th century,tohis Kingdom of Mercia fromkingdoms in what is now.

Mortimer's Trails; Of the Marcher Earls there were none more powerful than the Mortimers, who seat of power was at Wigmore castle. The 30 mile way-marked trail traverses this north west corner of Herefordshire, where the medieval Mortimer family ruled with an iron rod throughout the centuries.

CyclingRadnor Ring Cycle Route; A circular route on quiet country lanes crossing some of Mid Wales' most spectacular scenery with off-road mountain biking alternatives. The route links a number of attractive towns including Llandrindod Wells and Rhayader. If you start at the Victorian spa town of Llandrindod Wells, access the route via the picturesque Heart of Wales rail line and visit the National Cycle Collection

Family Routes; Elan Valley Trail - Cycle through the beautiful Elan Valley and alongside three reservoirs with red kites soaring above, or to the North west at  Mawddach Trail - Dolgellau enjoy awe-inspiring views along the Mawddach estuary before crossing the old wooden railway toll bridge into Barmouth.

Other family routes in Wales can be found at Sustrans, or  Routes2Ride.

Mountain Biking; Some of the Best off road tracks in the UK are in Wales. Radnor Forest has a marked Mountain bike route. Further afield there are a number of world class tracks at Coed-y-Brenin, Nant y Arian.

Horse Riding– There are a number of local horse riding stables in the area Underhill Riding Stables, and Heart of Wales Riding Stables, to name a few. If you have your own horse then we can offer Stables adjacent to our Log Cabins, where we stable our own horses that take part in Mid Wales and border counties trotting.

Train - Heart of Wales Train Line from Shropshire to South/West Wales, with the nearest stops at Llangunllo and Llanbister Road, passes through some of the most beautiful countryside in Wales. This is an ideal way to explore the countryside and used by Ramblers and cyclists.

Newtown Train Station, has services to West Midlands, West Wales, and North Wales

Local Shows/ Events;

Royal Welsh Show - Held near Builth Wells at the show ground, the Royal Welsh Show is a 4 day event attracting 250,000 visitors.

Knighton Carnival and Show - is held on the Saturday of the August bank holiday weekend

Kington Show is a traditional agricultural show with Horse, Cattle, Sheep, Dog and Horticultural classes together with Young Farmers competitions, Shearing competitions and Farrier demonstrations.

Sheep Music an internationally acclaimed three-day world music which takes place during July each year in Presteigne.

Llandrindod Wells;

The annual Victorian festival held in August when locals and businesses step back into the time of Victorian Llandrindod Wells - from their top hats to their high laced boots. It’s a perfect time to taste (delicious traditional treats and foods), see (costumes and decorations) and hear (bandstand and live theatrical performances) of Llandrindod Wells set in a bygone era.

Venture into the National Cycling Museum, the Radnorshire Museum and visit nearby Abey Cwm Hir, resting place of Llywelyn, the last Welsh King (1282).

Spend some time at the local railway station. The old signal box has quite a history and the Heart of Wales railway line, originally opened in 1865 has a thriving and continually growing service schedule. If you are lucky you may see one of the Steam Trains that occasionally visit the Town during the Summer.

Indoor Family fun can be found near Llandrindod Wells, at Newbridge-on-Wye. Quackers has indoor ball pools, drop slides, restaurant, lake and outside Go Karts.

Presteigne and Norton

Presteigne, (Llanandras in Welsh), was once the county town of Radnorshire and nestles at the heart of the Marches on the border of Wales and England.Surrounded by devastatingly beautiful, unspoilt countryside, this thriving border town has many unique qualities that make it both a perfect destination and a base from which to explore.

Step into the 1870’s at the award –winning Judges Lodgings and discover the world of a most unusual household. Explore the upstairs, downstairs life of the Victorian Judges, their servants and the felonious guests 

6 miles outside Presteigne near Kington the Small breeds farm can be found, A magical place to experience animals, birds, and owls.

Knighton 

The Welsh name for Knighton is Tref-y-Clawdd which means "Town on the Dyke" and it is the only Town that stands right on Offa's Dyke. Knighton is the home of the Offa's Dyke Centre and is the natural base from which to explore The Dyke.

The Dyke was built toward the end of the 8th Century by King Offa to separate the kingdoms of Mercia from Wales. It ran for 149 miles from Chepstow to Prestatyn and some 80 miles of The Dyke is still traceable today.

Knighton is steeped in history with sloping winding streets and half timbered houses, the older part of the Town has a grid of streets reminiscent of an Edwardian plantation

Knighton also is home to the Space Guard Centre which runs regular tours. Visit the facilities, hear about Spaceguard and learn something about the wonders of astronomy.

Rhayader

Situated at a natural crossroads between east and west, north and south, Rhayader has for centuries offered a welcome for travellers: from the Romans who had a stopover camp in the Elan Valley, Monks journeying between the Abbeys of Strata Florida and Abbeycwmhir and Drovers taking their livestock to far off markets and returning with goods and news.

Today history merges with the present. While agriculture remains a very important element of life here, vividly portrayed in the weekly Livestock Markets, the ancient and stunning landscape, rich in rare and beautiful wildlife, provides a wealth of opportunities for the modern activities of bird watching, walking and mountain biking

The dams and reservoirs of the Elan Valley Estate are situated within an area of outstanding scenic beauty. They provide a lasting amenity in their own right for visitors to enjoy . The protection of the water catchment to prevent pollution of the reservoirs has safeguarded the habitats of numerous species of flora and fauna. However, it should be remembered that the dams were built to provide for a very basic need...water for the people of Birmingham

Mid Wales the greatest density and diversity of birds of prey in southern Britain. Mid Wales home to the last remaining Red. Now, due to the hard work of the Conservation here in Wales, Kites once again in the ascendance. Wild Red Kites are fed at Gigrin Farm every day of the year.breathtakingof aerial piracy red kites compete with buzzards and ravens for choice pickings.

Newtown 

Situated on the banks of the River Severn in one of the most visually arresting areas in Wales, Newtown's small town charm is supported by a thriving business community. Residents and visitors alike can enjoy excellent shopping, first class theatres, museums and art galleries. There is a series of events throughout the summer including the Carnival, Food Festival and the prestigious Motor Show, and don't forget the original, and world record breaking, Santa Run in December.
